Living as Resurrection People

If you have been raised with Christ, how should that shape the way you live today?

The Word: Colossians 3:1–4

Paul's words in Colossians 3 carry the weight of settled fact: since you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above. Your spiritual resurrection with Him is already a reality if you belong to Him. You are no longer defined by the old patterns of sin and self. You belong to a new realm, under a new Lord, and that new realm has a center: Christ, seated at the right hand of God.

So when Paul says to seek the things above, he is not calling you to check out of earthly life. He is calling you to view everything on earth in light of Christ's rule in heaven. Resurrection people do not escape the world; they engage it differently, with priorities, decisions, and relationships shaped by the reality that their King reigns now.

But living under a reigning King also requires a changed mind. What you dwell on will shape what you desire and choose, which is why resurrection people are called to a new mindset, one that keeps returning to who they are in Christ, someone who has died and whose life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Hidden does not mean uncertain. It means secure and kept safe, beyond the reach of every enemy. You may feel weak and inconsistent, but your identity is not. It is anchored in Him, and one day when Christ appears, you will appear with Him in glory. The gap between what you are called to be and what you actually are will finally close.

Until that day, resurrection people live by faith in what is already true. Sin no longer has rightful claim over you. It may still tempt and trouble, but it does not own you. You are not striving to earn a place with Christ. You are learning to live out the implications of already being united to Him.

Take Heart: Here is what it means to be a resurrection person on an ordinary day: you wake up already on the winning side. Not because of what you have done, but because of where you are hidden, in Christ, held by God, waiting for a glory that is already yours. Seek. Set your mind. Engage your world differently. The King you serve is not watching to see if you earn it. He is the one who raised you.
